Death of daily newspapers hits rural folk hard
Me and some buddies were jawing at the station the other day.. the lack of newspapers is starting to be a real pain in the ass. The Oregonian used to be delivered every day but now isn't even going to Eugene. It's not like we actually read much of the paper but damn.. It's getting to be a serous problem starting a fire these days here in zero newspaper rural areas. We've got no easy fire starters!!!
I've been getting free papers and cardboard but man, sometimes you really need a wad of good old broadsheet newspaper to get a good fire going when the kindling is wet and it's pissing down rain outside. Used to be an endless supply of old newspaper so you could get pretty liberal with it when starting a fire .. now it's like you gotta do the old school woodland survival tricks to get a fire going -- shaving cedar really small and adding some pitch wood. Sheesh it's like being back in the 1900's or something.
So I'm thinking about starting a rural newspaper subscription -- I'd be just the paper from a regular sized newspaper but zero ink and no words. We all read news from the internets anyway so it's a waste of time to write stuff on it .. and it costs more. What we need in rural areas are just the paper! I'd call it BLANK and make sure it was highly combustible.
So how about it?
